About the Event

Abstract:It is possible to replace coal with low or zero carbon electricity in Alberta and Saskatchewan using existing technology: Compressed Air Energy Storage. The generation of wind and solar electricity now costs less than all other new electricity. Its generation, however, depends entirely on the availability of adequate sunlight and wind. Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) solution can cost effectively manage renewable power generation so emissions-free electricity can meet real-time demand.

The provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan offer unparalleled technical expertise and prime geology necessary to build CAES.  CAES assets will directly leverage our provinces’ oil and gas expertise to build a low-carbon future while generating jobs in these fields. Alberta and Saskatchewan geology offers ample capacity for thousands of megawatts of CAES and have world class renewable generation resources—sufficient to replace all coal generation and offer opportunities for high-value load development. Alberta and Saskatchwan were made for this.Presentation will provide more details on the findings shared in the white paper on our website rmpenergystorage.ca

Bio for Robert StewartDr. Robert Stewart has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He has worked on energy storage technology and project development for the last seven years.  His career ambition is to develop and implement energy storage technologies to support renewable energy generation integration. Currently his focus is on long duration storage assets and associated innovative business models.  He has a background in technical support for oil and gas machinery including industrial gas turbines with a focus on performance monitoring and risk based maintenance strategies
