Neighbourhood Safety There have been increasing safety issues in our neighbourhood, despite one of the lowest city crime rates. Be sure to report suspicious activity right away. Trent Taylor, our neighborhood CPS contact, reports: “If something is in progress, citizens should call 911. If it is just to report suspicious behaviour, call the non-emergency number 403-266-1234. Every two weeks we sit down with our district admin team and analyst here, and discuss areas of high crime and what to do about it.” Shout Outs
Thanks to Karen Lee for organizing an OSA neighborhood safety group
Thanks also to Shearer Johnson and Sheila Broadbent for heading a senior housing group
Look for future ideas and speakers on these topics and ways to get involved. Vitamin 'F' - That's Friends! "Real Age" doctors tell us that friends are good for our health. Dr. Oz calls them Vitamin F (for Friends or Family) and counts the benefits of friends as essential to our well-being. Research also shows people with strong social circles have less risk of depression and terminal strokes. Seniors' Resources - See more on the OSA Website Age-Friendly Calgary is a collaboration between the City of Calgary, senior-serving organizations and community-minded Calgarians. They encourage the city to consider needs of older adults when making decisions. Learn more about AFC, its history and future plans at Calgary.ca/agefriendly. Vaccine Scams targeting seniors: Alberta Health Services (AHS) has warned of a vaccination scam affecting Alberta's seniors. Reports have been received of a phone scam targeting seniors informing them to schedule their vaccinations for a fee. "AHS will never ask for payment for the COVID-19 immunization. Hang up immediately and report to the non-emergency line for local law enforcement" - AHS Check our website regularly to find out what is happening with the Weaselhead Society and their events.
